• Communication Data: Messages sent between teachers and parents through our messaging system
• Media Content: Photos and documents uploaded to activity feeds, assessments, or student profiles

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

We automatically collect certain information when you use our Services:

• Usage Data: Pages viewed, features used, actions taken (e.g., student enrollment, attendance marking, report generation)
• Device Information: IP address, browser type, operating system, device identifiers
• Analytics Data: We use PostHog and Google Analytics to track user interactions, feature usage, and application performance
• Cookies: We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to maintain sessions and improve user experience

1.3 Camera and Media Permissions

Our mobile applications may request access to your device's camera and photo library to enable you to:

• Upload photos to activity feeds and announcements
• Attach images to student assessments and reports
• Share visual updates with parents

You can deny these permissions, but some features may not be available. We only access your camera or photos when you explicitly choose to upload media.

We use the information we collect to:

• Within Your School: Information is shared with authorized users within your school organization (administrators, teachers, parents) based on their role and permissions
• Service Providers: We use third-party services including:
  • Cloudflare (hosting and infrastructure)
  • PostHog (product analytics)
  • Google Analytics (web analytics)
  • Sentry (error monitoring)
• Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request
• Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:

• Encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS)
• Secure authentication with Better Auth
• Role-based access controls
• Regular security audits and monitoring
• Audit logging of sensitive operations

However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide Services. When you delete your account or request data deletion, we will remove your personal information from our active databases within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, regulatory, or security purposes.

Audit logs and anonymized analytics data may be retained for longer periods for compliance and improvement purposes.

6. Children's Privacy

SchooLane is designed for use by schools to manage K-12 student information. We collect and process student information only at the direction of schools and parents/guardians. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without parental consent.

Parents have the right to review, modify, or request deletion of their child's information by contacting their school administrator.

7. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

• Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information
• Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information

Our Services are hosted on Cloudflare's global network. Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable laws.

10. Do Not Track

Some browsers include a "Do Not Track" (DNT) feature. Currently, there is no industry standard for how to respond to DNT signals. We do not currently respond to DNT browser signals but will update this policy if standards are established.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on our website and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of our Services after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
